Bauchi: PDP clinches Shira council seat as APC boycotts by-election

The Jigawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the current administration to review its payroll systems and eliminate ghost workers, thereby freeing up funds for development projects. This appeal follows a recent BudgIT report that placed Jigawa among the lowest‑performing states in budget execution out of Nigeria’s 36 states.

PDP state chairman Hon. Babandi Ibrahim Gumel said the report’s findings are deeply concerning. It revealed that Jigawa recorded one of the lowest capital‑budget implementation rates, with critical sectors such as health, education and infrastructure receiving less than the amounts allocated. Gumel expressed disappointment, describing the revelation as a wake‑up call for the state’s development.

The PDP urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration under Governor Umar Namadi to prioritize capital projects. Gumel emphasized that the governor must act swiftly and decisively to restore fiscal discipline, rebuild public trust and reposition the state for inclusive growth. He posted these comments on his Facebook page in response to the BudgIT report.

The report’s key findings underscore the need for improved budget performance in Jigawa, as insufficient funding for essential sectors hampers the state’s development. By eliminating ghost workers and reviewing payroll systems, the PDP aims to release resources for vital projects. Prioritizing capital projects and enhancing budget execution could boost the state’s economy, improve citizens’ well‑being and promote inclusive growth. The PDP’s urging highlights the importance of effective governance and fiscal responsibility in driving development and progress.
