Nigeria Weather Forecast Predicts Thunderstorms Rainfall

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, has issued a weather forecast predicting thunderstorms and rainfall across the country from Monday to Wednesday. According to NiMet’s weather outlook, released on Sunday, isolated thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected on Monday morning over several states, including Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba.

In the northern region, isolated thunderstorms with moderate rains are anticipated in the afternoon and evening, with a likelihood of flash floods in Adamawa, Taraba, and Gombe states. The central region is expected to experience a cloudy atmosphere with sunshine intervals on Monday morning, followed by moderate rains over Niger, Kogi, Kwara, the Federal Capital Territory, and Benue. Thunderstorms with moderate rains are forecast to occur over most parts of the central region later in the day.

The southern region is predicted to have cloudy skies on Monday morning, with moderate rains expected in Ekiti, Ondo, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states. Moderate rains are anticipated over most parts of the southern region later in the day. On Tuesday, the northern region will experience cloudy skies with sunshine intervals, while isolated thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected over Borno, Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba, and Adamawa.

NiMet has advised motorists to avoid driving during heavy rainfall and cautioned farmers against applying fertilizers or pesticides immediately before rainfall to prevent nutrient leaching. Residents are also urged to take necessary precautions, such as fastening loose objects, disconnecting electrical appliances, and avoiding tall trees, to reduce risks during storms. Airline operators are advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports for effective operational planning.
