APC Loses 200 Members to African Democratic Congress

Coalition: ADC presents membership cards to David Mark, Aregbesola

In a significant development ahead of the 2027 general elections, over 200 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gubuchi Ward, Makarfi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, have defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The defections were formalized on Monday, as the party continues to gain momentum as a platform for opposition leaders.

This latest wave of defections follows a trend that has been gaining traction since the coalition of opposition leaders adopted the ADC as their platform for the upcoming election. The ruling party, as well as other major parties such as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP), have seen a series of defections to the ADC. Notable opposition leaders, including former governors Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State and Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, have been at the forefront of receiving defectors into the ADC.

In a related development, at least 10,000 members of the PDP, APC, and other parties defected to the ADC in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State on Saturday. This mass defection underscores the growing appeal of the ADC as a viable alternative for voters dissatisfied with the current political landscape. The ADC’s rising profile is likely to continue shaping the electoral landscape as the 2027 general elections approach.

The recent defections highlight the dynamic nature of Nigeria’s political environment, where alliances and party affiliations can shift significantly in the run-up to major elections. As the country prepares for the 2027 polls, the APC, PDP, and other parties will need to reassess their strategies to retain and attract supporters. The ADC, meanwhile, will look to build on its current momentum and establish itself as a formidable force in Nigerian politics. With the elections still ahead, the country’s political scene is poised for further developments, as parties and candidates jockey for position.
