NANS expresses confidence in Tinubu, commends INEC

The National Association of Nigerian Students has expressed confidence in the capacity of President-Elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, to develop the education sector of the country.

Tinubu was on Wednesday declared the President-Elect and subsequently issued his Certificate of Return after he polled 8,794,726 votes, while Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party garnered 6,984,520. Obi scored 6,101,533 and Kwankwaso got 1,496,687 in Saturday’s presidential election.

NANS, in a statement signed and made available to The on Wednesday by its National Public Relations Officer, Giwa Temitope, expressed confidence in the capacity of Tinubu to turn around the education sector and make education more affordable and accessible.

The group also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission for the conduct of the just-concluded presidential election.

The student body applauded the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), for not interfering in the electoral process.

The statement read, “As an association, we write to commend the Independent National Electoral Commission for the peaceful conduct of the just-concluded election which saw to the emergence and declaration of the Presidential candidate of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the winner.

“It is also instructive that we commend President Muhammadu Buhari for giving space for a credible electoral process without undue interference. The resolve of the President not to interfere in the activities of INEC has once again strengthened free choice which is one of the major components of democracy. As a country that practices constitutional democracy, the President has set a nice precedent in further giving independence to the electoral umpire.

“As students’ body, we believe in the capacity of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure a turnaround and make education more accessible and affordable to the plebeians. However, we join meaningful Nigerians all over to call for calm and ensure that they don’t take part in activities that might jeopardise or truncate the peace we are enjoying.”
