A British national has been issued an arrest warrant by the High Court in connection with the murder of Agnes Wanjiru, which occurred over a decade ago in Nanyuki, Laikipia County. The warrant was issued by High Court Judge Alexander Muteti after the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) applied, stating that the accused had been formally charged with murder. According to the prosecution, the alleged crime took place on the night of 31 March or 1 April 2012 at Lions Court Lodge in Nanyuki, where the accused is said to have killed Wanjiru.
The prosecution informed the court that the accused was not present, prompting the application for a warrant of arrest to facilitate extradition to Kenya for trial. The court was assured that witnesses, some based in the United Kingdom, would be made available during the hearing, and arrangements would be made for them to testify despite their location.
In his ruling, Justice Muteti directed media outlets to refrain from publishing the names of the accused or any witnesses listed in the evidence bundle, citing the need to protect the integrity of the judicial process. The issuance of the arrest warrant marks a significant development in a case that has spanned more than a decade. The murder of Agnes Wanjiru has attracted extensive investigation and public interest. With the accused now formally charged and a warrant issued, the case is poised to move forward, likely involving extradition proceedings to bring the accused to Kenya to face trial. The case underscores the importance of international cooperation in criminal matters and the Kenyan judiciary’s commitment to ensuring justice, regardless of the time elapsed since the alleged crime.
