Kebbi State Dismisses Claims of Rewarding Political Thugs

Kebbi appoints Bello Besse district head of Baraden Dutsin-Mari

The Kebbi State Governor’s office has denied allegations that Governor Nasir Idris rewards political thugs with government jobs or contracts. Abdullahi Idris, Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy to the Governor, described the claims as “cheap and baseless” during a live interview on TVC News.

According to Idris, the governor adheres to a rigorous vetting process before making appointments or awarding contracts, ensuring that only credible and qualified individuals are selected. This process involves consulting with local government or emirate officials to verify the candidate’s credibility, sincerity, and honesty. Traditional and religious leaders in Kebbi State are also involved in the vetting process for potential appointees.

Idris emphasized that it is unlikely for a district head, traditional ruler, or religious leader to recommend a political thug for government employment. The governor’s aide reaffirmed that the administration prioritizes maintaining peace and attracting investment to create jobs and improve living standards for the people of Kebbi State.

The denial comes amid concerns about the empowerment of violence in the region. Idris stated that the government’s focus is on building the state, creating opportunities, and ensuring good governance, rather than rewarding violent behavior. He dismissed the allegations as mere speculation, emphasizing that the governor’s administration is committed to upholding the principles of good governance and accountability.

The Kebbi State government has been working to promote economic development and improve the welfare of its citizens. The governor’s efforts to maintain peace and stability in the region have been crucial in attracting investment and creating jobs. As the state continues to grow and develop, the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability will be essential in ensuring that the benefits of development are shared by all citizens.
