Some yet-to-be-identified assailants have reportedly murdered a resident of Ijebu Jesa in Osun State, Tunde Ejoka. His corpse was discovered in the early hours of Wednesday at his residence. Sources from Ijebu Jesa indicated that Ejoka, who had hearing and speaking impairments, was found dismembered by unknown individuals.
Yemisi Opalola, the spokesperson for the Osun Police Command, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation has begun to uncover the circumstances surrounding the killing. “It happened. His corpse was discovered on Wednesday. We have launched a probe into the killing with a view to unraveling the circumstances surrounding it. No arrests have been made yet,” Opalola said.
Meanwhile, the Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has stated that the late Ejoka was a member of their party and has attributed the killing to suspected thugs affiliated with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). In a statement signed by its acting chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, the APC alleged that Ejoka was assassinated in his home by PDP thugs. “Information has it that the PDP thugs had earlier threatened the life of Ejoka on the eve of the presidential and National Assembly elections last Friday,” Lawal claimed. He urged the State Commissioner of Police to investigate, arrest, and prosecute anyone directly or indirectly connected to the killing.
Efforts to obtain a response from the PDP regarding these allegations have been unsuccessful. Calls to the party’s spokesperson in Osun, Oladele Olabamiji, went unanswered, and he has not responded to a text message sent to him about the matter as of the time of this report.
