The Benue State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has refuted claims made by the Senator David Mark-led faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that it has successfully lured over 10,000 PDP members and taken control of the Agatu political landscape.
In a statement released on Thursday, the PDP’s State Publicity Secretary, Tim Nyor, labeled the allegation as a “deliberate fabrication” and an insult to the people of Agatu. Nyor cited the 2023 election results, which showed the PDP securing 14,936 votes in Agatu, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) garnered 5,956 votes. He questioned the feasibility of the ADC’s claim, given that it would represent approximately 75 percent of the entire electorate.
The PDP described the ADC’s assertion as another in a series of fabrications, highlighting the party’s internal struggles and disputes over its structures. The statement urged PDP supporters to disregard the “spurious assertions” and focus on strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Reaffirming its dominance in the region, the PDP maintained that it remains the preferred party in Agatu and across Benue State, citing its strong grassroots presence and record of service to the people. The party’s statement emphasized its commitment to its supporters and the community, underscoring its position as a leading political force in the region.
The dispute between the PDP and the ADC reflects the complex and dynamic nature of Nigerian politics, where alliances and affiliations can shift rapidly. As the 2027 general elections approach, political parties are intensifying their efforts to strengthen their bases and attract new supporters. The PDP’s denial of the ADC’s claims highlights the ongoing competition for influence and votes in Benue State and beyond. With the electoral landscape continuing to evolve, the actions and statements of major political parties will be closely watched by voters and analysts alike.
