Osun APC Introduces Disciplinary Measures Ahead of Governorship Primaries

Rivers APC Defends Strategy Amid Calls for Wike to Join

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has introduced new disciplinary measures to promote unity within the party ahead of its 2026 governorship primary elections. At a meeting of the State Working Committee (SWC) in Osogbo, the state capital, the party expressed concern over verbal attacks by supporters of various governorship aspirants against fellow aspirants, party leaders, and supporters.

The SWC, presided over by state chairman Tajudeen Lawal, described such behavior as damaging to the party’s unity. To address the situation, the committee has outlawed the involvement of party executive officers at all levels in acting as coordinators for any governorship aspirant. This move aims to prevent party officials from taking sides and fueling divisions within the party.

The committee has also resolved that spokesmen, supporters, and aspirants must refrain from using abusive or derogatory language during campaigns. Any violation of this rule will attract sanctions in line with the party’s constitution. Furthermore, the use of revered party leaders’ names or groups to endorse aspirants has been prohibited, with violators facing stiff penalties.

In addition, the SWC has warned coordinators against spreading unverified claims about financial support from party chieftains, which could fuel division and animosity within the party. The committee has also instructed local government APC chairmen to be engaged through proper channels to ensure that any initiatives, such as the generation of 1,000 names from each ward, are rooted in the party structure.

The Osun APC has also tasked state executive officers to intensify efforts in the ongoing Continuous Voters’ Registration exercise, noting that the current level of engagement is not encouraging enough. The party chairman reminded aspirants and their supporters that the ultimate goal is victory in the 2026 governorship election, not internal conflict. With these new measures in place, the Osun State APC aims to promote a more unified and disciplined approach to the upcoming primary elections.
