A Nigerian lawmaker has disclosed that he spent N300 million on scholarships for disadvantaged students in his constituency. Muhammad Bello Shehu, representing Fagge Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, made this known during a media parley with members of the Correspondents’ Chapel in Kano. According to him, 3,500 beneficiaries studying in various tertiary institutions benefited from the scheme between 2023 and 2025.

In addition to the scholarships, Mr. Shehu also supported secondary school students with registration fees for key examinations such as WAEC, NECO, and JAMB during the same period. Furthermore, 25 law school students each received N250,000 to aid their studies. The lawmaker’s interventions in education also included constructing a block of six classrooms and toilets at Na-Tsugune Primary School, providing 2,000 sets of school uniforms, and reconstructing Khairul Bariyyah Islamiyah at Rijiyar Lemo Arwa.

On the healthcare front, Mr. Shehu announced plans to upgrade the popular Sabo Garba Clinic at Fagge A into a full hospital with a 50-bed capacity, theatre unit, laboratory, pharmacy, and male and female wards. The project, which isexpected to be completed by the end of this year, will be commissioned by the Executive Governor of Kano State. Upon completion, the hospital will serve not only the people of Fagge but the entire Kano State, thereby expanding access to quality healthcare services.

The lawmaker’s efforts to improve education and healthcare in his constituency are significant, given the challenges faced by many Nigerians in accessing these basic services. With thousands of students benefiting from his scholarship scheme and a new hospital set to be commissioned, Mr. Shehu’s interventions are likely to have a positive impact on the lives of his constituents. As the project nears completion, the people of Kano State await the commissioning of the new hospital, which promises to enhance healthcare delivery in the region.
