The Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as the Amotekun Corps, announced the arrest of 51 suspected criminals, including an escaped convict from the Okitipupa Correctional Centre. The suspects were apprehended across the state’s 18 Local Government Areas, according to Adetunji Adeleye, the Corps’ State Commander. He disclosed that the escaped convict had committed another crime before being captured by Amotekun operatives.
Of the 51 individuals detained, 37 were arrested for breaching law and order, six for kidnapping, and one for rape. These arrests form part of the agency’s broader effort to maintain security and stability in Ondo State. The suspects have undergone various stages of interrogation, and 35 are set to face trial in a court of competent jurisdiction. The remaining individuals will undergo an internal dispute‑resolution process, which could lead to further prosecution if necessary.
Notably, the agency dismantled a kidnapping syndicate and arrested one of its armourers, who confessed to involvement in five major kidnap operations within the state. The Amotekun Corps reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property in Ondo State. Its efforts aim to create a secure environment that encourages investment, economic growth, and food security. By combating crime and upholding law and order, the Corps seeks to protect residents, investors, and farmers, thereby promoting overall development in the state.
