The Kebbi State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned that it will take disciplinary action against members suspected of undermining its upcoming congresses, scheduled for September 20 and 27. State PDP Legal Adviser Nura Bello announced on Friday in Birnin Kebbi that a Disciplinary Committee has been formed at the national level to address any anti‑party activities or sabotage. He told journalists that the committee will act against any member found engaging in such conduct.
Bello also responded to a court order that circulated on social media on September 18, which allegedly called for the suspension of the congresses in Kano and Kebbi States. He explained that the party promptly sought legal counsel to have the order vacated, and the court granted the request. Bello expressed disappointment that the plaintiffs who initiated the action were PDP members from the state, noting that jurisdictional issues should have been handled by the state High Court rather than escalated further.
The establishment of the Disciplinary Committee comes as the PDP prepares for its congresses, a critical component of the party’s internal democratic process. Ensuring a smooth conduct of these meetings is seen as essential for the party’s stability and cohesion. By enforcing discipline, the Kebbi State PDP aims to maintain unity and prevent activities that could jeopardize its progress.
As the congresses approach, the party’s ability to manage anti‑party behavior will be closely watched. The outcomes of the meetings are likely to influence the PDP’s future direction and its capacity to present a united front in upcoming elections.
