PDP to hold special Expanded National Caucus meeting Monday

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nigeria has successfully conducted its local government congress in Kebbi State, describing the exercise as peaceful, transparent, and orderly. Muhammad Aliyu‑Goronyo, chairman of the congress monitoring team and PDP chairman in Sokoto State, said the congress was well‑organized across the 21 local government areas (LGAs) of Kebbi. His team visited several venues—including Birnin Kebbi, Kalgo, Bunza, Jega and Argungu—to oversee the proceedings.

Aliyu‑Goronyo expressed satisfaction with the smooth conduct of the congress, noting the early turnout of delegates and the unity among party members. He attributed the success to the peaceful atmosphere and orderly behavior of delegates, viewing it as a testament to the party’s potential victory in the 2027 general elections. In areas where multiple candidates contested, delegates voted; where consensus candidates were chosen, they were affirmed in line with party rules. The active participation of youth and women was also commended for its impressive turnout and disciplined conduct.

Retired General Aminu Bande, the PDP’s 2023 governorship candidate in Kebbi, praised the roles of security agencies, INEC officials and the media in ensuring a smooth exercise. He highlighted the congress as a significant step for the PDP in Kebbi State, with the party now looking forward to its State Executive Congress scheduled for September 27. Bande expressed optimism about the party’s chances in the 2027 general elections, citing the unity and cohesion among members as key factors.

The outcome of the local government congress is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the PDP’s strategy for the upcoming elections. With the congress concluded, the PDP in Kebbi State is poised to move forward with preparations for the 2027 general elections.
