PDP Holds Local Government Congress in Edo State

PDP condemns appointment of ex-APC chairman as Niger State electoral commission boss

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has successfully conducted its local government congress across all 18 council areas, marking a significant step in the party’s reorganization efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections. A delegation from the PDP national headquarters in Abuja, led by Mr. Hillary Okute, oversaw the congress, which was also attended by members of the State Caretaker Committee.

According to the State Caretaker Chairman, Tony Aziegbemi, the exercise represents a “rebirth” for the party, both in Edo State and nationally. This development comes on the heels of the party’s ward congresses, which were held in all 192 wards across the state last week. Aziegbemi expressed optimism that the momentum generated from the congress would strengthen the PDP’s position to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming elections.

Aziegbemi criticized the APC, stating that its administration has failed Nigerians, with over 60 million citizens reportedly going to bed hungry daily due to the hardship created by its policies. He emphasized that the PDP’s efforts in Edo State are aimed at rescuing Nigeria from the current state of affairs.

The Chairman of the Local Government Congress Panel, Hillary Okute, described the process as a “new dawn” for the PDP, commending the orderliness and sense of unity displayed by members. He noted that the party’s commitment to democracy and good governance is evident in the successful conduct of the congress.

At the end of the congress, an 18-member executive committee and a national delegate were elected in each of the 18 local government areas. This development is seen as a crucial step in the party’s preparation for the 2027 and 2028 elections, as it seeks to unseat the APC at both the state and federal levels. The PDP’s reorganization efforts are expected to continue in the coming months, with the party focusing on strengthening its structures and mobilizing its members ahead of the elections.
