The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has successfully conducted local government congresses in all 21 local government areas of Kebbi State. Party leaders described the exercises as peaceful, transparent and orderly, resulting in the election of local government executives and national delegates.
Bello Goronyo, chairman of the PDP Local Government Congress Committee and PDP state chairman in Sokoto, reported a high turnout of delegates and praised the well‑attended congresses. He highlighted the early arrival of delegates, the unity among party members, and the impressive participation of youths and women, whose orderly conduct he commended. The election process was straightforward: delegates voted when multiple candidates contested a position and affirmed consensus candidates where an agreement had been reached. Goronyo noted the peaceful atmosphere as a testament to the party’s strength heading into the 2027 general elections.
Retired General Aminu Bande, the PDP’s 2023 gubernatorial candidate in Kebbi State, lauded the security agencies, INEC representatives and media organisations for ensuring a smooth and credible process. He expressed confidence that the party will achieve victory in the 2027 elections and indicated that attention now turns to the State Executive Congress (SEC) scheduled for 27 September.
During the exercise, the monitoring team visited several local government areas, including Birnin Kebbi, Kalgo, Bunza, Jega and Argungu. The successful conduct of the local government congresses marks a significant step for the PDP as it prepares for the 2027 general elections. With national leadership remaining united and focused on progress, the party is poised to make a strong showing, and the outcome of the SEC will be closely watched as it sets the stage for the upcoming campaign.
