Ekiti 2026: APC factions clash over Oyebanji's re-election ambition

Former Ekiti North Federal Constituency 1 lawmaker Bimbo Daramola expressed confidence in Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s prospects ahead of the All Progressive Congress (APC) primary elections. Speaking to journalists in Ado‑Ekiti, Daramola said Oyebanji is unfazed by fellow aspirant Kayode Ojo, citing the governor’s democratic stance. He refuted rumors that Oyebanji had barred cabinet members and local‑government chairmen from interacting with Ojo and other contenders, emphasizing that, as a democrat, the governor is entitled to voice his views on any issue.

Regarding the party’s internal dynamics, Daramola insisted there is no crisis within the APC and predicted that Oyebanji will emerge victorious in the primaries without significant challenges. When asked about the method of the primary—direct or indirect—he asserted that Oyebanji possesses the qualities needed to defeat other aspirants regardless of the format.

Daramola also defended Oyebanji’s decision to take a large number of stakeholders to the APC Secretariat in Abuja to submit his nomination form, describing the governor as a widely respected figure whose actions demonstrate strong connections within both the party and the state. On questions about Ojo’s candidacy, Daramola declined to comment extensively, citing their personal friendship and mutual respect, but stressed that Oyebanji’s confidence in his own abilities is evident and that he is not intimidated by any opponent.

The APC primary elections are scheduled for 27 October. As the party prepares for this crucial event, Daramola’s remarks suggest that Oyebanji is well‑positioned to secure the nomination, a result that could have significant implications for Ekiti’s political landscape. Observers will be watching developments closely in the coming weeks.
