Enugu State Governor Seeks Increased Budget Allocation

Gov Mbah receives NASS joint works committee, advocates special attention to Enugu

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has called for increased attention to be given to his state, citing its significant role in Nigeria’s colonial and post-colonial history. He made the appeal during a meeting with the Joint National Assembly Committee on Works, which comprises members of the Senate and the House of Representatives. The committee, led by Chairman Akin Alabi, was on a working visit to Enugu State to oversee federal government road projects.

The governor urged the committee to ensure that Enugu State receives more allocations in the 2026 budget and that ongoing federal road projects connecting the state are expedited. He emphasized the importance of road infrastructure in growing the state’s economy, which he aims to increase from $4.4 billion to $30 billion over the next six years.

Alabi commended the transformations taking place in Enugu State under Governor Mbah’s leadership, noting that the governor’s approval rating is high both nationally and locally. He praised the governor for creating a conducive environment for federal contractors, allowing them to work smoothly and safely.

The committee expressed its commitment to ensuring that federal road contractors deliver value for money. Governor Mbah reiterated his administration’s commitment to road development and making life easier for federal contractors through necessary interventions.

The governor also requested that the committee help expedite the completion of the Makurdi to Enugu Expressway and the Onitsha-Enugu Express Road, which are currently being constructed at a slow pace. He assured the committee that his administration is willing to help resolve any issues related to rights of way and compensation that may be hindering the progress of the projects.

The meeting was also attended by Senate Minority Whip Senator Osita Ngwu and member representing Igbo-Eze North/Udenu Federal Constituency Hon Dennis Agbo. The discussion highlights the importance of collaboration between the federal and state governments in delivering critical infrastructure projects that can drive economic growth and development in Enugu State and beyond.
