The Kano State Government has referred petitions and counter‑petitions concerning Sheikh Lawan Triumph to the Kano State Shura Council for review and advice. In response, Governor Abba Yusuf urged the protesters to submit written petitions, assuring them that he would act based on their submissions.
Since then, the government has received several petitions and counter‑petitions from a range of faith‑based Islamic organizations. These include Safiyatul Islam of Nigeria, the Tijjaniya Youth Enlightenment Forum, the Committee of Sunnah Preachers, Kano, Interfaith Parties for Peace and Development, Sairul Qalbi Foundation, Habbullah Mateen Foundation, the Imams of Juma’at Mosques under the Qadiriyya Movement, and Multaqa Ahbab Alsufiyya. According to a statement from Musa Tanko, spokesman for the secretary to the state government, the petitions were submitted by eight different organizations.
The secretary to the state government, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, has directed that all petitions be forwarded to the State Shura Council for careful study and advice. The government reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace, unity, and mutual respect among all religious groups in Kano State. Residents have been urged to remain calm, continue their normal activities, and obey the law.
