Nigeria Airports Go Cashless with Contactless Payment System

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has introduced a contactless and cashless payment system, dubbed ‘operation go cashless’, in partnership with Paystack. This initiative aims to modernize payment processes at Nigerian airports, aligning them with global digital standards.

As of September 29, 2025, all payments at FAAN’s revenue points, including airport access gates, car parks, and VIP lounges, will be cashless. The new system will enable travelers and airport users to make secure and seamless payments using contactless options. According to FAAN, this move is in response to the growing demand for secure, modern, and transparent payment systems.

By reducing reliance on cash, the authority seeks to enhance efficiency, improve revenue assurance, and deliver a better customer experience at airports. The cashless policy is part of FAAN’s efforts to keep Nigeria’s airports in step with global digital standards. The agency has reaffirmed its commitment to continuous improvement, with plans to roll out the cashless policy in phases across other airports nationwide.

The introduction of the cashless payment system at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja marks the beginning of this phased rollout. This development is expected to have a positive impact on the overall airport experience, providing faster and more convenient services for travelers. As Nigeria’s airports continue to evolve, the adoption of digital payment systems is a significant step towards enhancing operational efficiency and customer satisfaction. With the cashless policy set to be implemented nationwide, travelers can expect a more streamlined and secure payment experience at Nigerian airports in the future.
