Nigeria’s U‑20 national team, the Flying Eagles, have wrapped up their preparations for the 2025 FIFA U‑20 World Cup in Chile. Head coach Aliyu Zubairu expressed optimism about the squad’s prospects, emphasizing that the recent friendly matches were more about diagnosing weaknesses than chasing results.
The team fine‑tuned its strategy in two friendlies: a 1‑1 draw against the host nation Chile and a 3‑1 victory over Australia. According to Coach Zubairu, these games were crucial for pinpointing areas that needed improvement. “In the two matches we played here, the results were not even the most important thing. What mattered to us was identifying our deficiencies and working on them,” he said.
After a 12‑day training camp in Santiago, the Flying Eagles arrived in Talca on Thursday night, ready to face their opening World Cup opponent, Norway, on Monday. Zubairu believes the friendlies have positioned the team for a strong showing in the tournament.
The 2025 FIFA U‑20 World Cup kicks off on Saturday in Chile, featuring teams from around the globe competing for the top honor in U‑20 football. With their preparations complete, Nigeria’s Flying Eagles are poised to make a notable impact, and their performance will be closely watched given the nation’s history in the competition.
