Nigeria’s immigration management has entered a new era of digital innovation and operational efficiency, according to Interior Minister Dr. Olubunmi Tunji‑Ojo. Speaking at the passing‑out parade of 689 cadets from the 50th Superintendent Basic Course of the Immigration Training School in Kano, the minister highlighted the government’s reforms aimed at enhancing national security and restoring public trust in the service. Represented by the Secretary to the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board, retired Maj‑Gen. Abdulmalik Jibrin, the minister underscored the commitment to building a smarter, more secure immigration system.

Recent innovations include electronic gates at airports, digital landing and exit cards, a centralized passport production system, and real‑time electronic border surveillance. These measures are expected to strengthen border governance, improve migration management, and enhance service delivery for both Nigerians and foreigners. Comptroller‑General of Immigration Kemi Nanna Nandap praised President Bola Tinubu and the minister for their support and reform‑driven leadership, which are shaping the Nigerian Immigration Service into a modern, technology‑driven agency.

The cadets, who completed six months of intensive training, were urged to embrace professionalism, emotional intelligence, and a zero‑tolerance attitude toward corruption. Commandant Comptroller Idris Akande‑Ozigi noted that the training prepared them for the challenges of national service, while Kano State Governor Abba Kabir‑Yusuf pledged the state government’s support to the training institution.

The passing‑out parade, attended by heads of security agencies, members of the Kano Emirate Council, families of the cadets, and other dignitaries, marked a significant milestone in the government’s effort to reform the immigration service and boost its operational efficiency. With the introduction of digital innovations and a focus on citizen‑focused service delivery, the Nigerian Immigration Service is poised to play a critical role in strengthening national security and promoting economic development.
