Nigeria at 65: Anambra election must be fair, credible - IPAC charges INEC, politicians

The Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has called for a free, fair, credible, and inclusive governorship election in Anambra State, scheduled for November 8, 2025. In a statement released on Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, IPAC urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a level playing field for all political parties and candidates. As the umbrella body for all registered parties in Nigeria, the council emphasized the importance of issue‑based campaigns and urged politicians to abandon bitter politics that undermine the electoral process.

IPAC stressed the need to respect the sanctity of the ballot box, ensuring that every vote counts toward the final result. The statement, signed by the council’s national chairman, Dr. Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, praised Nigerians for their milestone in democratic governance and saluted the courage and patriotism of the nation’s founding fathers and compatriots who fought for independence from British colonial rule. It also encouraged citizens to use the 65th Independence anniversary as an occasion for reflection and renewed dedication to national service.

The council highlighted the necessity of action, patriotism, and a commitment to deepening Nigeria’s democracy. Looking ahead, IPAC expressed confidence and faith in building a peaceful, stable, just, and prosperous society for future generations. As the country prepares for the 2027 general election, IPAC reiterated the importance of rebuilding trust in the democratic system and affirmed its commitment to sustainable democracy and development, emphasizing that collective effort is essential for an enduring democratic future.

In the broader context of Nigeria’s electoral landscape, IPAC’s call for a free and fair election in Anambra State is significant. Its emphasis on issue‑based campaigns and respect for the ballot box underscores the need for a credible electoral process, and its ongoing commitment to democracy and development is poised to play a crucial role in shaping the nation’s political future.
