Kano Assembly receives Governor Yusuf's two commissioner nominees

The Kano State House of Assembly has received two nominations for commissioner appointments from Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. In a plenary session, Speaker Jibril Ismail Falgore read a letter stating that the nominations were made under the governor’s constitutional powers. The nominees—Abdulkarim Rabiu Maude, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, and Dr. Aliyu Isa Aliyu, former Director‑General of the Kano Bureau of Statistics—were selected on the basis of merit, integrity and a proven record of public service.

This selection process highlights the governor’s commitment to appointing competent and experienced individuals to key positions in the state government. The nominations now require confirmation by the Kano State House of Assembly. As part of that process, the two candidates are scheduled to appear before the House for screening on September 30, 2025. The screening is intended to ensure that the appointed commissioners possess the necessary skills and expertise to discharge their duties effectively.

If confirmed, the new commissioners are expected to strengthen the state government’s capacity to deliver on its development agenda. Their expertise and experience should enable them to make significant contributions to the governance of Kano State. The confirmation process will give the nominees an opportunity to demonstrate their competence and vision for the state’s development.

As the screening and confirmation unfold, the Kano State government is likely to see a boost in its administrative capabilities. The governor’s decision to nominate seasoned professionals reflects his administration’s focus on good governance and effective service delivery. The next steps in the confirmation process will be closely watched, as the outcome is expected to have a substantial impact on the state’s governance structure.
