Edo proposes N125.6bn supplementary budget for infrastructure development

Don't step into Edo without my approval - Gov Okpebholo tells Peter Obi

The Edo State Government has proposed a supplementary budget of N125.6 billion, which is set to be presented to the Edo State House of Assembly for consideration and approval. This move is aimed at augmenting the initial approved 2025 budget, increasing it from N675.22 billion to N799.82 billion.

According to Emmanuel Okoebor, the State Commissioner for Finance, the supplementary budget represents an 18% increase over the initially approved budget. Okoebor disclosed this information while briefing journalists on the resolutions taken by the State Executive Council meeting held on September 29, 2025. The emergency executive meeting, presided over by Governor Monday Okpebholo, resulted in the resolution to propose the supplementary budget.

The rationale behind the supplementary budget is the state government’s commitment to infrastructural development. A significant allocation of N563 billion has been earmarked for capital expenditure, marking a 25% increment from the initial N450 billion. In contrast, the recurrent expenditure has seen a 5% increase, primarily driven by the rise in minimum wage and the employment of over 1,000 personnel in the hospital management board.

The revised budget allocation reflects a notable shift, with 70% of the budget now dedicated to capital expenditure, while 30% is allocated for recurrent expenditure. This change underscores the government’s emphasis on infrastructural development, as evident in the construction of over 254 kilometers of roads across the state, with numerous ongoing projects.

The Commissioner for Information and Communication, Paul Ohombamu, noted that the revised budget is expected to be forwarded to the Edo State House of Assembly for legislative consideration and passage. The proposed supplementary budget is anticipated to facilitate the state government’s efforts to enhance infrastructural development, ultimately contributing to the well-being of the people of Edo State.
