Jigawa State Governor Malam Umar Namadi has signed into law a ₦75 billion supplementary budget for the 2025 fiscal year, following the state House of Assembly’s passage of the appropriation bill last week after thorough scrutiny. The supplementary budget allocates ₦58 billion to the state government and ₦17.109 billion to the 27 local government councils.
Governor Namadi said the additional funding will support ongoing projects and programs across vital sectors, including education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture and other developmental initiatives. In December 2024, he presented the initial 2025 budget of ₦698.3 billion; with the supplementary appropriation, the total budget for Jigawa State in 2025 now stands at ₦773.3 billion.
The state government aims to use the increased resources to advance its development agenda and address key challenges in critical sectors. The signing of the supplementary budget is expected to have a significant impact, enabling the completion of ongoing projects and the initiation of new ones. The allocation to local governments will also allow them to implement their own development initiatives, contributing to the overall growth of the state.
The decision to approve a supplementary budget reflects the Jigawa State government’s commitment to meeting the needs of its citizens and driving economic growth. As the state moves forward with its development plans, the successful implementation of the supplementary budget will be crucial to achieving its objectives. With these funds in place, the government is poised to make substantial progress, and residents can anticipate tangible improvements in education, healthcare, infrastructure and other sectors, positively influencing the state’s economy and the well‑being of its people.
