Kwankwasiyya Leader Defects to APC in Kano State

A prominent leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement in Kano State, Nigeria, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Alhaji Amadu Danfulani, who headed the movement in Gobirawa Ward, Dala Local Government Area, announced his decision to join the APC at the party’s state headquarters in Kano on Tuesday.

Danfulani cited his disappointment with the Kwankwasiyya Movement and its leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, as the reason for his defection. He also criticized the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), which is currently in power in the state, accusing it of implementing “anti-people’s policies.” The NNPP has been the ruling party in Kano State since the last general election.

The APC Zonal Chairman for Kano Central, Alhaji Shehu Aliyu Ungoggo, received Danfulani into the party. Ungoggo, who represented the state chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, welcomed Danfulani and his supporters, stating that the APC remains open to members of other political parties who wish to defect, provided they adhere to the party’s rules and constitution.

Other notable APC leaders present at the event included Rabiu Suleiman Bichi, Managing Director of the Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority, and Alhaji Munir Haruna, the APC chairman of Dala Local Government. Danfulani was accompanied by some of his supporters, who also defected from the NNPP to the APC.

The defection of Danfulani and his supporters is seen as a significant development in Kano State’s political landscape. The APC, which is one of the major political parties in Nigeria, has been working to strengthen its presence in the state. The party’s openness to receiving members from other political parties is expected to continue, as it seeks to build a strong coalition ahead of future elections.

The NNPP, on the other hand, will need to reassess its strategies and policies to address the concerns of its former members and retain the support of its remaining constituents. As the political terrain in Kano State continues to evolve, the actions of key players like Danfulani and the APC will be closely watched by political analysts and observers.
