Tinubu visit sparks Plateau government denial of derogatory letter

Attacks on Plateau communities genocide — Gov Mutfwang

The Plateau State government has distanced itself from an open letter allegedly written by the Plateau United Front, a group claiming to represent the state’s interests. The letter, addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was signed by Sargwak Haruna, who purportedly serves as the group’s president. This development comes ahead of President Tinubu’s scheduled visit to the state for the burial of the late mother of APC National Chairman, Prof. Yilwatda Nentawe.

According to Dr. Gyang Bere, Director of Press and Public Affairs to Governor Caleb Mutfwang, the Plateau United Front is an unregistered organization and not recognized by the state government. Bere described the open letter as “ill-motivated, mischievous, and not representative of the views of the governor, the government, or patriotic Plateau citizens.” The tone, content, and spirit of the letter, he noted, betray the desperation of its sponsors and fall short of the civil and respectful manner in which Governor Mutfwang engages with the Presidency and other national leaders.

Governor Mutfwang has consistently acknowledged the interventions of President Tinubu and the Federal Government in addressing the insecurity challenges facing Plateau State. The governor has also appreciated the president’s appointments of qualified Plateau indigenes to key national positions. Furthermore, Mutfwang has urged all peace-loving citizens serving at the federal level to prioritize unity and service above partisan considerations.

The Plateau State government has called on the public to disregard the “malicious fabrications” contained in the open letter and has urged security agencies to investigate and unmask the authors and their sponsors. In anticipation of President Tinubu’s visit, Governor Mutfwang and the people of Plateau State look forward to welcoming him warmly. The state government’s position underscores its commitment to maintaining respectful relations with the Federal Government and promoting peace and unity among its citizens.
