Shettima returns to Abuja after UNGA80, Germany engagements — Daily Nigerian

Vice‑President Kashim Shettima has returned to Abuja after a week‑long international engagement that included the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and strategic meetings in Germany, where he represented President Bola Tinubu. According to his spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima delivered President Tinubu’s national statement at the UNGA, calling for comprehensive reforms of the United Nations and urging greater African control over the continent’s $700 billion worth of mineral resources. He also reinforced partnerships with key international stakeholders, such as the United Kingdom and the Gates Foundation, and met with UN Secretary‑General António Guterres, who praised Nigeria’s bid for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council.

In addition to his UNGA duties, Shettima highlighted Nigeria’s $200 billion energy‑transition opportunity to global investors, emphasizing the country’s potential for growth and development in that sector. He reassured the Nigerian diaspora that the Tinubu administration is committed to engaging with them and incorporating their perspectives into its policies and programmes.

During his time in Germany, the Vice‑President focused on strengthening relationships with international partners and promoting Nigeria’s interests on the global stage. His return to Abuja marks the conclusion of a successful diplomatic tour that has bolstered Nigeria’s position within the international community. As the country navigates the complexities of global diplomacy, the outcomes of Shettima’s engagements are expected to have a lasting impact on Nigeria’s relationships with key stakeholders and its pursuit of strategic objectives.
