The Obidient Movement has called for the arrest and prosecution of Adekunle Mustapha, also known as Sego, the Lagos State Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). The demand follows the emergence of a video in which Sego threatens to kill anyone who votes against the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State during the 2027 elections.
In a statement, the movement’s National Coordinator, Tanko Yunusa, condemned Sego’s threat, describing it as part of desperate attempts by the APC to intimidate voters. The movement recalled the violence perpetrated by NURTW members and other thugs during the 2023 elections, which resulted in the killing and maiming of many voters, including supporters of the Labour Party and its candidate, Peter Obi. Yunusa argued that Sego’s threat is a continuation of the APC’s efforts to suppress opposition and maintain its grip on power in Lagos State.
The Obidient Movement has urged President Bola Tinubu, Governor Babajide Sanwo‑Olu, and security agencies—including the Department of State Services (DSS) and the police—to take immediate action against Sego and others involved in similar threats and violent acts. It has also appealed to the international community, labeling Sego’s threat a crime against humanity and a danger to peace in Nigeria, and urging foreign observers to note the actions and inactions of those responsible.
The call for Sego’s arrest comes amid growing concerns about rising political violence and intimidation in Nigeria. The 2023 elections were marked by widespread violence and allegations of rigging, and there are fears that the 2027 elections could be similarly marred. By highlighting the issue and drawing international attention, the Obidient Movement hopes to pressure authorities to prevent a repeat of the 2023 violence, ensure a free and fair election in 2027, and curb political intimidation.
