DAILY POST, TVC reporters emerge best journalists in Ogun

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ogun State Council honored outstanding journalists at its 2025 annual Press Week award and dinner night, themed “Asale Asa: Journaliganza.” The ceremony, held on Friday, recognized Gift Oba, a correspondent for Media Talk Africa in Ogun State, and Kazeem Olowe of Television Continental (TVC) as the best print/online and broadcast journalists of the year. Oba’s award highlighted his in‑depth investigative reports, including “Overcrowded, Overlooked: Inside Ogun Correctional Centre Crisis” and “How House Agents Milk ‘House Hunters’ Dry in Ogun,” which the council praised for their exceptional journalistic skill.

The event featured a fashion parade showcasing traditional attire styled by the Egbaliganza, adding a unique cultural element to the proceedings. NUJ Chairman Akinwale Olarenwaju, in his remarks, emphasized that the awards acknowledge the dedication and exceptional abilities of journalists in the state. He thanked the state government, dignitaries, and council members for their support and pledged that the council would continue to grow and promote quality journalism.

Prominent attendees included Deputy Governor of Ogun State Noimot Salako‑Oyedele and Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu. Other notable journalists honored were Doyin Lasisi of the Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation, Yemi Dalemo of the Nigerian Television Authority, and Ayo Oluwunmi of Ogun State Television. The awards underscored the council’s commitment to recognizing and promoting excellence in journalism, highlighting the importance of quality reporting and the role of journalists in shaping public discourse.

As the media landscape evolves, such recognition is essential for encouraging journalists to maintain high standards and push the boundaries of investigative reporting. The NUJ Ogun State Council has set a precedent for acknowledging outstanding journalism, a crucial step toward sustaining a free and independent press.
