President Bola Tinubu has urged residents of Plateau State to promote peace and unity, essential for the nation’s progress and growth. He made this appeal while attending the funeral service of Nana Lydia Yilwatda, mother of Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Jos on Saturday.

During his speech, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of setting aside religious and ethnic differences, stressing that Nigerians should focus on their shared humanity. He shared a personal anecdote, highlighting his own experience with religious diversity, noting that his wife is a pastor and that he believes in the freedom of religion. Tinubu emphasized that all individuals are answerable to the same Almighty God, and it is their love and treatment of others that truly matters.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State expressed his gratitude to President Tinubu for attending the funeral, despite his busy schedule. The governor identified insecurity as a major setback to the state’s growth, but assured that his administration has implemented measures to promote peaceful coexistence and tranquility. He also took the opportunity to thank the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her support of displaced and vulnerable women and children in the state.

Professor Yilwatda, the chief mourner, remembered his mother as a dedicated, committed, and loving wife who led a life of service to humanity. He described her as a strong, loyal, and determined woman who lived an exemplary life of sacrifice and humility. The APC national chairman thanked President Tinubu, governors, members of the national assembly, and all Nigerians for their support during this difficult time.

The deceased, who was 83 years old, will be laid to rest in Dungung, Kanke Local Government Area of Plateau State. The funeral service was attended by prominent figures, including President Tinubu, governors, and members of the national assembly, demonstrating the high regard in which Nana Lydia Yilwatda was held. President Tinubu’s call for unity and peace serves as a reminder of the importance of putting aside differences and working towards a common goal, particularly in times of grief and reflection.
