Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited has unveiled its pan-African operational strategy at the Africa Energy Week, marking a significant phase of regional expansion and leadership in the energy sector. The company, which operates Nigeria’s largest upstream oil and gas joint venture, aims to catalyse a new beginning for Africa, delivering energy security and industrialisation through sustainable practices.

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Tony Attah, described Renaissance as a transformational force in Africa’s energy landscape. “We are Renaissance, not just in name, but in purpose,” Attah said. “Our ambition is to drive energy security and industrialisation through sustainable practices.” The company’s vision is to become Africa’s leading energy company, enabling energy security and industrialisation sustainably.

Renaissance, formerly the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Renaissance Africa Energy Holding Company. It operates the NNPC/Renaissance/TotalEnergies/AENR Joint Venture, with assets spread across 18 oil mining leases in Nigeria’s Niger Delta. The acquisition of Shell’s shares in the former SPDC by Renaissance’s parent company was seen as a bold move, which Attah said was executed with clarity and conviction.

Chairman of Renaissance, Dr. Layi Fatona, emphasized the company’s Afrocentric vision, with a commitment to continental leadership. “Our strategy begins in Nigeria but is designed for scale across the continent,” Dr. Fatona said. He added that Renaissance is not just participating in Africa’s energy future but is out to shape it.

The Africa Energy Week, which took place from September 29 to October 3, 2025, provided a platform for Renaissance executives to engage in strategic discussions. Attah hosted a fireside chat aimed at deepening brand awareness, while Fatona joined a panel on Frontier Plays Within Africa’s Mature Basins, highlighting the role of legacy assets in the energy transition.

Renaissance’s new strategy signals a significant shift in the company’s approach, as it seeks to expand its operations across Africa. With its strong presence in Nigeria, the company is well-positioned to drive energy security and industrialisation on the continent. As the energy landscape continues to evolve, Renaissance is poised to play a leading role in shaping Africa’s energy future.
