The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State has voiced deep concern over the rising tide of political thuggery and insecurity across the region. In a press briefing after a stakeholders’ meeting in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday, the party’s representative, Chiroman Kabi Ibrahim Mohammed‑Mera, warned that these threats jeopardize the state’s stability and called for immediate action.

Mohammed‑Mera highlighted the worsening security challenges, citing a recent incident in Argungu where thugs allegedly attacked wedding attendees inside a mosque. He described the attack as “unacceptable” and a “dangerous signal ahead of future political activities.” The ADC condemned such acts in totality, stressing that it is unbecoming for any political leader to support or finance violence.

The representative also recalled the killing of a Nigerian soldier in Sakaba Local Government Area, noting that banditry, kidnapping and other criminal activities continue unabated. These crimes have left citizens traumatized, farmlands deserted and economic activities crippled. He urged both state and federal governments, along with security agencies, to adopt coordinated, intelligence‑driven strategies to restore peace and order.

Mohammed‑Mera cautioned against intimidation and aggression by political actors, warning that such behavior undermines democratic values and can have far‑reaching consequences. He emphasized the need for peace to prevail in Kebbi, noting that the state’s insecurity mirrors broader challenges facing Nigeria, where political thuggery and violence have been on the rise in recent years.

The ADC’s call for urgent measures underscores the necessity of concerted efforts by governments and security forces to restore stability in Kebbi State. As the situation unfolds, the next steps to address the growing concerns of insecurity and political violence remain to be seen.
