Nigeria Fuel Price Increases to N945 per Litre

Fuel price may drop to N800 per litre - Marketers

Nigerians in Abuja are facing increased fuel prices, with some filling stations selling petrol at between N905 and N945 per liter. The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited retail outlets, along with Empire, AA Rano, and Shema filling stations, have adjusted their prices as of October 6, 2025. Empire Filling Station in Gwarimpa is selling petrol at the highest rate of N945 per liter, while other stations like MRS, Emedeb, Raniol, and Eterna are dispensing fuel at N885 and N910 per liter.

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria has attributed the hike to the disruption caused by the PENGASSAN strike. The president and spokesperson of the association, Abubakar Maigandi and Chinedu Ukadike, respectively, noted that the feud between Dangote Refinery and PENGASSAN may have resulted in the latest fuel price increase due to panic buying and artificial scarcity. Maigandi stated that members of the association who received petrol from Dangote Refinery are still selling the product between N885 and N895 per liter.

The PENGASSAN strike, which lasted for two days, was called off after the intervention of the Federal government. The strike was declared over the mass sacking of Nigerian workers at Dangote Refinery. Following the resolution of the feud, Dangote Refinery lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and others for their support in halting the strike action.

The depot prices of petrol products have also increased slightly, with Dangote Refinery and Raniol selling at N844 per liter, Aiteo at N845, and NIPCO at N850 in Lagos State. The developments come days after the resolution of the Dangote Refinery and PENGASSAN feud.

In a related development, Vice President Kasim Shettima stated that the country is bigger than PENGASSAN, while the president of PENGASSAN, Festus Osifo, replied that the country is bigger than Dangote Refinery and the presidency. The situation is expected to be saved by the availability of petrol products across the country, according to Ukadike. The fuel price hike is likely to have a significant impact on the Nigerian economy and citizens, and it remains to be seen how the situation will unfold in the coming days.
