Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has reiterated the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) stance as a dominant force in sub-Saharan Africa. Speaking at a meeting of the PDP National Convention Protocol Committee in Abuja, Fintiri emphasized the party’s instrumental role in his personal successes. He expressed his commitment to the party, attributing his achievements to the PDP, aside from his faith.
Preparations for the party’s national convention, scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State, are underway. The compilation of delegates’ lists has begun, and Fintiri assured that his team is dedicated to ensuring a successful convention. He stated that he may spend up to three weeks in Ibadan to oversee the preparations.
Fintiri pledged that the convention would be transparent and credible, with the new National Working Committee members emerging as individuals of integrity and competence. He guaranteed a fair screening process, allowing all candidates who have purchased forms to participate, provided they have no encumbrances in their documents or records.
The governor encouraged candidates to test their popularity in the field, as the party is finalizing the list of delegates. He emphasized that the party’s leadership is committed to providing responsible leadership and that the convention’s outcome would reflect the majority’s support.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State, who chairs the convention’s protocol subcommittee, praised the level of enthusiasm and mobilization across the country. He noted that the energy and unity demonstrated ahead of the convention reflect the PDP’s determination to reclaim its position as Nigeria’s foremost opposition party.
The PDP’s national convention is expected to be a crucial event in Nigeria’s political landscape. With the party’s commitment to transparency and credibility, the outcome of the convention may have significant implications for the country’s political future. As the party prepares for the convention, its members remain focused on ensuring a successful event that will shape the PDP’s trajectory in the years to come.
