Nollywood Actor Baba Fokoko Counters Colleagues Election Claim

Nollywood Actor Baba Fokoko Counters Colleagues’ Claims on 2023 Election Campaign Rewards

A recent statement by veteran Nollywood actor Alhaji Babatunde Bamgbode, professionally known as Baba Fokoko, has contradicted claims made by his colleagues regarding the 2023 election campaign. Baba Fokoko’s response comes after several Nollywood celebrities, including Lalude, Alapini, Toyin Abraham, Olaiye Igwe, Seyi Law, Eniola Badmus, and Foluke Daramola, publicly expressed disappointment over not being rewarded for their support of Tinubu’s presidency during the 2023 general elections.

In June 2025, Alapini expressed regret over not being compensated for his support, sparking a wave of similar complaints from other celebrities. Lalude subsequently called out the president of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, MC Oluomo, for allegedly failing to fulfill his promises to the group. However, in a recent interview on Oyinmomo TV, Baba Fokoko disputed Lalude’s claims, stating that MC Oluomo never made any promises of rewards to the group.

According to Baba Fokoko, MC Oluomo provided food and instructed the celebrities to distribute the remaining items among themselves during the campaign. He emphasized that while MC Oluomo’s actions were appreciated, there was no expectation of compensation after the campaign. Baba Fokoko’s statement has shed new light on the situation, highlighting the need for clarity and understanding in the interactions between celebrities and political supporters.

The controversy surrounding the 2023 election campaign rewards has sparked a wider debate about the relationships between celebrities, politicians, and their supporters. As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how the parties involved will address the concerns and misunderstandings that have arisen. With the Nigerian entertainment industry being a significant part of the country’s cultural landscape, the actions and statements of its members can have far-reaching implications, making it essential to approach such issues with transparency and accountability.
