The Transmission Company of Nigeria has announced a planned power outage in parts of Lagos State, affecting areas including Lekki, Ikoyi, Jakande, and surrounding regions. According to a statement by TCN’s spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah, the blackout is scheduled to take place on October 11, 12, 18, and 19, 2025, and will last for eight hours daily, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
The planned outage is due to preventive maintenance of TCN’s transmission lines, specifically the Ajah/Lekki 330 kV line on October 11, 2025, and the Ajah/Alagbon 330 kV line on October 12, 18, and 19, 2025. The maintenance work involves the installation of a transformer protective system on the 300MVA 330/132/33kV power transformer at the Alagbon Transmission Substation. Additionally, TCN’s maintenance crew will replace corroded insulators on critical towers of the Ajah/Alagbon and Ajah/Lekki 330 kV transmission lines.
TCN has apologized for any inconvenience the power outage may cause to electricity customers in the affected areas. This development comes after a similar announcement by Eko and Ikeja electricity companies in July 2025, which scheduled a 25-day blackout in Lagos State. The Transmission Company of Nigeria’s efforts to maintain and upgrade its infrastructure aim to ensure a reliable and efficient electricity supply to consumers.
The scheduled maintenance is a necessary step to prevent potential power outages and ensure the stability of the transmission lines. By installing a transformer protective system and replacing corroded insulators, TCN aims to minimize the risk of equipment failure and reduce the likelihood of unplanned power outages. As the company works to improve its services, residents and businesses in the affected areas are advised to make necessary arrangements to mitigate the impact of the planned power outage.
The power outage is expected to affect daily life and economic activities in the region, highlighting the importance of a reliable electricity supply. As the Transmission Company of Nigeria continues to work on upgrading its infrastructure, it is crucial for the company to communicate effectively with consumers and minimize disruptions to their services. With the planned maintenance scheduled to take place over the next few weeks, residents and businesses in the affected areas will be hoping for a swift and efficient completion of the work to restore normal power supply.
