TCN announces blackout in Lagos

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned power outage that will affect parts of Lagos State, including Lekki, Ikoyi, Jakande and surrounding areas. According to a statement by TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah, the blackout is scheduled for October 11, 12, 18 and 19 2025 and will last eight hours each day, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The outage is required for preventive maintenance of TCN’s transmission lines. On October 11 the Ajah/Lekki 330 kV line will be serviced, while the Ajah/Alagbon 330 kV line will be worked on on October 12, 18 and 19. Maintenance activities include installing a transformer protective system on the 300 MVA 330/132/33 kV power transformer at the Alagbon Transmission Substation and replacing corroded insulators on critical towers of both the Ajah/Alagbon and Ajah/Lekki lines.

TCN has apologized for any inconvenience the outage may cause to electricity customers in the affected areas. The announcement follows a similar notice from Eko and Ikeja electricity companies in July 2025, which scheduled a 25‑day blackout in Lagos State. TCN’s maintenance work aims to ensure a reliable and efficient electricity supply by preventing potential failures and reducing the likelihood of unplanned outages.

Residents and businesses in the affected zones are advised to make necessary arrangements to mitigate the impact of the planned outage, as it is expected to affect daily life and economic activities. Effective communication from TCN and a swift, efficient completion of the work will be essential to restoring normal power supply and maintaining consumer confidence as the company continues to upgrade its infrastructure.
