Dr. Abiola Oshodi, a member of the Presidential Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress, has expressed confidence that the president-elect, Bola Tinubu, will fulfill his promises to the Nigerian people. Tinubu was declared the winner of last Saturday’s presidential election and received his certificate of return on Wednesday. In a statement regarding the APC’s victory, Oshodi emphasized the importance of Tinubu preparing for the challenges ahead by assembling his team.
Oshodi expressed his excitement and happiness, stating, “I am excited and happy just like every other Nigerian and lover of democracy. In the end, democracy wins and Nigeria wins. Kudos to the president-elect for a hard-fought and hard-won victory which wasn’t easy in coming.” He noted that Tinubu’s path to victory was unique, as he lost his home state of Lagos, which prevents historians from attributing his win solely to votes from that region. Additionally, he lost Osun state, ensuring that his victory could not be credited to support from fellow Yoruba voters. Even in the traditional KKK states of Kano, Kaduna, and Katsina, Tinubu faced challenges that historians will likely analyze in the context of his unusual pathway to success.
Oshodi urged the president-elect to begin thinking about how to implement his vision for a new Nigeria and to foster unity among other political contestants in the spirit of democracy. He expressed his belief that Tinubu would be ready to take action once his administration is inaugurated on May 29, 2023. “Asiwaju Bola Tinubu campaigned through all the nooks and crannies of Nigeria, and that contributed to his victory,” he noted.
Looking ahead, Oshodi anticipates that the president-elect will act as a unifying figure for Nigeria, regardless of political differences and affiliations. He emphasized the need for Tinubu to focus on radically reforming and restructuring the country for the common good, beginning the implementation of the agenda outlined in his renewed hope manifesto. “He will definitely hit the ground running,” Oshodi concluded.
