Roy Keane on Arsenal

Manchester United legends Roy Keane and Rio Ferdinand have weighed in on the ongoing debate between Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice and his Chelsea counterpart Moisés Caicedo. The discussion has gained momentum in recent weeks, with fans and pundits sharing their views. On the *Stick To Football* podcast, Keane expressed a clear preference for Rice, saying the Englishman has “a little bit extra” compared with Caicedo. His opinion carries weight, given his experience as a midfielder during his playing career.

Ferdinand also offered his perspective, noting that Rice and Caicedo possess similar attributes but excel in different areas. He suggested that, for a holding midfielder, he would choose Caicedo, whereas for a more attacking role, Rice would be his pick.

Both players have made significant contributions to their clubs. Rice joined Arsenal from West Ham United in 2023 for a reported £105 million, and has recorded 17 goals and 23 assists in 113 appearances. Caicedo moved to Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion for £115 million the same year, tallying six goals and ten assists in 107 games, and helping Chelsea win the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Europa Conference League.

The debate is likely to continue as the Premier League season progresses. Arsenal currently sit atop the table, while Chelsea are seventh, five points behind the leaders. The two teams will meet on 30 November and 28 February 2026, offering further insight into the abilities of these talented midfielders. Keane’s and Ferdinand’s comments highlight the strengths and weaknesses of both players, and the season will reveal how they influence their teams’ success.
