NPFL: Amapakabo speaks on Abia Warriors' Oriental derby loss to Rangers

Abia Warriors’ technical adviser, Imama Amapakabo, blamed his team’s 2-0 defeat to Rangers on technical mistakes made by the players. The loss took place at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu on Wednesday, with Iwundu Chidozie and Godwin Obaje scoring in the first half to secure the win for the Flying Antelopes. The victory moved Rangers to fifth place in the league table with 11 points.

Amapakabo emphasized that technical errors, rather than tactical ones, were the primary cause of the defeat. He pointed out that one of his players was slow to react and stressed the distinction between technical and tactical mistakes, treating them as separate issues.

The adviser also criticized the time‑wasting tactics employed by some home teams, such as hiding the ball when leading. He argued that these antics hinder the growth of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) and should be eliminated.

Abia Warriors now face a challenging test in their next match, taking on league leaders Nasarawa United at the Lafia City Stadium on Sunday. The encounter promises to be a crucial showdown, with Abia Warriors seeking to bounce back from their defeat and Nasarawa United aiming to maintain their top‑of‑the‑table position.

The NPFL has witnessed intense competition this season, with several teams vying for the top spots. The upcoming match between Abia Warriors and Nasarawa United is expected to be closely contested, as both sides aim to secure valuable points. As the league progresses, teams will need to adapt and improve their strategies to remain competitive, making this fixture a significant test of Abia Warriors’ resolve and determination.
