APC Dissolves Enugu Committee Ahead of Governor’s Defection

Ben Nwoye takes over as APC NWC dissolves Enugu exco

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disbanded its Enugu State working committee, a decision made during the party’s 179th National Working Committee meeting on Thursday in Abuja. This move precedes the anticipated defection of Governor Peter Mbah to the APC.

According to reports, the dissolution occurred just two days after the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, resigned amidst allegations of certificate forgery. Nnaji is a known ally of Barr Ugo Agballah, the former chairman of the APC in Enugu State. The National Working Committee (NWC) has effectively dissolved the Agballah-led State Working Committee (SWC) with immediate effect.

In its place, a 7-member caretaker committee has been established, with Barr Ben Nwoye, former chairman of the party in the state, appointed as the new helmsman. Barr Eugene Odo, a former Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, will serve as the committee’s secretary.

The resolution, signed by Hon. Durosinmi Meseko, Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the APC, stated that the NWC approved the dissolution of the APC Enugu State Executive Committee following a comprehensive review of the party’s state. The caretaker committee, set to be inaugurated on Friday, comprises Dr. Ben Nwoye as Chairman, H.E. Mrs. Fidelia Njoeze, Comrade Peter Chime, Dr. (Mrs.) Oby Ajih, Dr. Chiedozie Nwafor, Engr. Emma Ekeh, and Rt. Hon. Eugene Odoh as Secretary.

This development comes as Governor Peter Mbah is expected to join the APC, despite initial resistance from Agballah and Nnaji. However, foundation members, including Nwoye and Mr Osita Okechukwu, have maintained that the party is ready to welcome the governor. The governor’s defection is now anticipated to occur within a few days, marking a significant shift in the state’s political landscape.
