The Taraba State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has officially presented party flags to its 16 chairmanship candidates, marking a significant step in the party’s preparations for the upcoming local government elections. The elections are scheduled to take place on November 8, 2025, as announced by the Taraba State Independent Electoral Commission (TSIEC).
The flag presentation ceremony was held in Jalingo, the state capital, and follows the release of the election timetable by TSIEC. The PDP had earlier conducted its internal nomination processes across all 16 local government councils and 168 wards of the state, resulting in the submission of its list of candidates to TSIEC for screening. All 16 chairmanship candidates were subsequently cleared by the commission.
PDP State Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Bawa, congratulated the candidates on their emergence, stating that their selection was a result of divine will and party confidence. He emphasized the importance of committing to the party’s shared goal of delivering victory at all levels. Bawa urged the candidates to align with the vision and leadership style of Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas, highlighting the need to complement state efforts to strengthen governance at the grassroots level.
As future local government chairmen, the candidates are expected to play a critical role in driving the governor’s development agenda. They have been tasked with transforming their communities and making Taraba a model for others. The PDP chairman also called on the candidates to immediately begin engaging voters across their constituencies to secure victory for the party in the forthcoming elections.
The presentation of party flags to the candidates is a significant milestone in the party’s preparations for the elections. With the elections scheduled to take place in November, the candidates are expected to hit the ground running, engaging with voters and promoting the party’s vision for the state. The outcome of the elections is likely to have a significant impact on the governance of Taraba State, and the PDP is hopeful of securing a majority of the chairmanship positions.
