The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Borno State has taken a significant step toward inclusivity in the upcoming local government elections by reducing the cost of nomination forms for women and physically challenged persons. At a news conference in Maiduguri, APC state Chairman Alhaji Bello Ayuba announced that councillorship forms for these groups will now cost N250,000, while chairmanship forms will be N1 million—both representing a 50 % reduction from the standard fees of N500,000 and N2 million, respectively. The fee adjustment follows consultations with party members in Katsina and Lagos States and aims to give women and persons with disabilities an equal opportunity to participate.

The APC has pledged to conduct free, fair, and transparent primaries, ensuring that all aspirants receive equal chances to contest. The party has already completed the form‑purchase process and will soon begin screening candidates for the 27 local government chairmanship positions and 320 ward councilorships. Even where only one aspirant stands in a local government or ward, affirmation exercises will be carried out to secure acceptance by party structures. After screening and affirmation, the approved list will be forwarded to the Borno State Independent Electoral Commission (BORSEC) so candidates can obtain forms and prepare for the main elections.

To guarantee transparency and adherence to party guidelines, larger committees will be formed at various levels across all local government areas. The APC has urged its members to remain peaceful throughout the electoral process, emphasizing its commitment to democratic principles and credible elections across the state. This reduction in nomination fees for women and physically challenged persons marks a notable move toward greater diversity and inclusivity, setting the stage for a smooth and successful local government election in Borno State.
