The Ogun State Internal Revenue Service has launched a statewide enforcement exercise to improve tax compliance among residents and boost the state’s Internally Generated Revenue. According to Executive Chairman Olugbenga Olaleye, the drive targets corporate organizations, business premises, and institutions that have failed to fulfill their tax obligations despite repeated notifications.
Olaleye emphasized that tax payment is a civic duty, essential for funding government services such as infrastructure development, education, and healthcare. He urged business owners and organizations to regularize their tax records with the revenue service, noting that the agency is committed to professionalism, transparency, and improved service delivery.
The enforcement operations will be conducted in a lawful and respectful manner, with the objective of fostering a more compliant and revenue-driven state. Zonal Controller Godwin Okpandu represented Olaleye during the announcement, reaffirming the agency’s commitment to its goals.
The exercise has already received cooperation from some taxpayers, with Zonal Controller Adebola Sorunke describing the initiative as largely successful. The revenue service plans to sustain enforcement efforts alongside ongoing taxpayer education and engagement. Head of PAYE and Compliance Bosede Opawande urged taxpayers to fulfill their obligations promptly, stating that timely payment of taxes is crucial for meeting revenue targets and supporting the state’s socio-economic development.
As the enforcement exercise continues, the Ogun State Internal Revenue Service aims to increase tax compliance and revenue generation. The state’s Internally Generated Revenue is a vital source of funding for public projects and services, and improved tax compliance will contribute to the state’s overall development. By emphasizing the importance of tax payment and providing education and support to taxpayers, the revenue service hopes to create a more compliant and revenue-driven environment, ultimately benefiting the state and its residents.
