The Osun State Government and the All Progressives Congress (APC) are locked in a dispute over allegations of corruption involving a senior civil servant. The APC claims the state is shielding a female Permanent Secretary who allegedly embezzled N300 million in state funds. According to the party, the official is the wife of a serving commissioner in Governor Ademola Adeleke’s cabinet, and the government is handling the case secretly, arranging for her to repay the money rather than face prosecution. The APC has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigeria Police to investigate and ensure justice is served.
In response, the Osun State Government denied the allegations, describing them as “beer‑parlour gossip elevated to the level of party propaganda.” Government spokesperson Olawale Rasheed said there is no truth to the report of a N300 million scandal and asserted that the state’s procurement system operates under strict oversight mechanisms, making such corruption impossible. He warned that the government may take legal action against the APC official who made the accusations.
Governor Adeleke’s administration has emphasized its commitment to transparency and accountability, highlighting a procurement law that requires threshold approvals and compliance with due‑process procedures, which would prevent a ministry official from unilaterally handling large sums of money. The APC, however, accuses the state government of shielding corruption, while the government accuses the APC of fabricating falsehoods to divert attention from its low acceptability among Osun residents.
The heated exchange has significant implications for the state’s governance and transparency. Both parties have called on the EFCC and the Nigeria Police to investigate the allegations and ensure that justice is served. The outcome of this dispute remains uncertain.
