Dangote Cement Launches Operations In Côte d’Ivoire

Dangote Cement has launched its operations in Attingué, Côte d’Ivoire, with a production facility spanning 50 hectares and a capacity of 3 million tonnes of cement per year. This makes it one of the group’s largest facilities outside Nigeria. The estimated investment of 100 billion CFA francs marks Côte d’Ivoire as the 11th African country to host a Dangote Cement production unit.

The Dangote Group aims to contribute to the development of Ivorian infrastructure and meet the growing demand for construction materials, driven by rapid urbanization and major construction projects. With a total capacity of 55 million tonnes per year on the continent, the group intends to play a significant role in the region’s construction industry.

The Attingué plant is expected to generate over 1,000 direct and indirect jobs, providing a significant boost to young people in Côte d’Ivoire and supporting the ecosystem of local SMEs. The company plans to set up training programs for young Ivorian engineers and technicians through the Dangote Academy, strengthening local skills in industrial management.

Dangote Cement Côte d’Ivoire CEO, Serge Gbotta, emphasized the company’s ambition to offer internationally-standard cement, produced locally, at a competitive price. The plant is not just an industrial unit but a symbol of confidence in the future of Côte d’Ivoire and a commitment to sustainable development alongside local communities.

The company also plans to put support mechanisms in place, including credit facilities and commercial assistance, to support small retailers and boost the value chain. Beyond the industrial aspect, Dangote Cement has promised community initiatives, such as opening access roads, drinking water supply projects, and supporting local health facilities.

With its premium cement available in several grades, Dangote Cement intends to establish itself as a trusted partner for the Ivorian construction industry. The Attingué plant, designed to be at the cutting edge of technology, should enable the country to significantly reduce its cement imports and eventually become a regional hub for production and export. The launch of the Attingué plant reinforces Dangote Cement’s commitment to sustainable and inclusive development in Africa.
