Bauchi: PDP clinches Shira council seat as APC boycotts by-election

Nigerian lawmaker Sadiq Abdullahi, who represents Sabon Gari Federal Constituency, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) citing internal conflicts and a loss of direction. He announced his resignation on Monday, explaining that the party’s prolonged factionalism has hampered his ability to serve his constituents effectively. Abdullahi, the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), submitted his resignation letter to his ward chairman, expressing gratitude to the PDP for the opportunity to serve under its platform and acknowledging the support and experience he gained while in the party.

His departure follows that of former National Secretary Sunday Udeh Okoye and comes amid growing discontent within the PDP over its handling of internal leadership disputes and strategic direction ahead of future elections. The party’s persistent factionalism has created a prolonged crisis, undermining members’ ability to perform their duties optimally. These twin resignations highlight the deepening internal conflicts that have plagued the PDP for some time and raise concerns about its preparedness for upcoming polls.

As Nigeria’s political landscape continues to evolve, the PDP’s internal struggles could have significant implications for its prospects in forthcoming elections. Abdullahi’s exit is likely to be seen as a major blow to the party, given his status as a federal lawmaker, and may prompt other members to reassess their allegiance, potentially leading to further defections. The unfolding situation leaves it uncertain how the PDP will address its internal conflicts and restore stability within the party.
