In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, 120 members of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC) have completed a specialized training course conducted by the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) in Bunia. The two‑week program, which ended on 10 October 2025, was designed to enhance the technical and operational skills of Congolese troops deployed in Ituri province, where armed groups continue to pose a threat.

Led by MONUSCO’s North Sector, the training covered a range of modules, including telecommunications, GPS, drone operation, computer literacy, first‑aid, and paramedical care. Instructors from Bangladesh, Morocco, Indonesia and Nepal also provided instruction on mortar and machine‑gun handling, giving FARDC soldiers practical skills to meet field challenges. During the closing ceremony, trainees demonstrated the techniques they had learned before local authorities and UN officials.

Lieutenant‑General Johnny Luboya Nkashama, Military Governor of Ituri, praised the commitment of the Congolese troops and thanked MONUSCO and the participating contingents for their support. He stressed the importance of continuous training given the ongoing threat from armed groups in the region.

The course is part of MONUSCO’s broader effort to build the capacity of Congolese forces so they can apply their skills independently and sustainably. Brigadier‑General Md Saiful Alam Bhuiyan, Commander of MONUSCO’s North Sector, noted that capacity‑building is integral to the mission’s mandate. Over the past year, MONUSCO has trained more than 1,600 Congolese soldiers in combat, weapons handling and international humanitarian law, fostering lasting skills that contribute to peace and stability in the province.

Additional training sessions are underway, with over 600 soldiers currently undergoing instruction at the Diango site on rocket‑launcher operation with the Nepalese contingent. These ongoing programs demonstrate MONUSCO’s commitment to supporting Congolese authorities in building a more stable and secure environment in the region.
