The Federal Government, led by President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has expressed its appreciation for the international observer missions that were deployed for the presidential and National Assembly elections held on February 25. This commendation was conveyed in a statement issued on Thursday by Francisca Omayuli, the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The ministry emphasized that the presence of these observers significantly contributed to the promotion of democratic processes in Nigeria, particularly in light of the upcoming governorship and state assembly elections. The statement highlighted the government’s gratitude towards the international community, civil society organizations, and various development partners for their support and for sending high-level observation missions to Nigeria during the elections.

Furthermore, the statement noted that the largely peaceful conduct of the polls reflects Nigeria’s commitment to good governance and democratic principles. The government expressed its reliance on the continued goodwill of the international community as it endeavors to consolidate democracy in the country. In this context, the support from all stakeholders is deemed crucial for advancing the democratic process in Nigeria, especially as the nation prepares for the governorship and state assembly elections scheduled for March 11.
